What makes us different?

This course is different from other courses because:

  • We are a small SCITT and therefore our partnerships and relationships are very strong, and we can offer bespoke packages according to need
  • We welcome both experience in primary schools and career changers
  • All trainees are signed up to a well-being package throughout the year
  • All training is delivered by specialists in their field who are still practising
  • It is a full time course, with most of the training and practice based in schools
  • 1 day a week is out of school to learn about evidence based research based on classroom practice
  • Trainees are allocated a Mentor and a Tutor to support, develop and challenge them through the course
  • All Mentors and Tutors are trained in Instructional Coaching
  • Assessment will be based on observations, feedback and action steps and your practice against the Teacher Standards, using the ITT Core Content Framework.
  • Tutors will visit every half term to support you and formatively assess your progress. Every term there will be a summative assessment when you will be expected to orally present your progress against the 5 areas in the ITT Core Content Framework, to show your progress against the Teacher Standards
  • Trainees use a portal to communicate and show evidence of weekly meetings and observations
  • Trainees will spend 6 weeks in an alternative school in a different phase in the Spring Term, as well as experience in a Secondary School  and a Special Needs provision
  • PGCE assignments are set and marked by the University of East London who will award the PGCE
